Givi Merabishvili

Psychologist, psychotherapist, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor, Founder of PsychoArsi

In 1964, he graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili State University with a degree in psychology.

 

1968-1972. Researcher at the D. Uznadze Institute of Psychology.

 

In 1971, he defended his doctoral dissertation and was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Sciences in Psychology.

 

1972-1975 Head of the Psychology Department of the Georgian Technical University.

 

1978-2006. Associate Professor at I. Javakhishvili State University; Professor; Head of Department; Head of Laboratory.

 

In 1989, he defended his doctoral dissertation and was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Psychology.

 

In 2000, he founded the Psychophysiological Rehabilitation Center "Arsi", which still carries out psychotherapeutic, psychoconsulting, psychoprophylactic activities; teaches psychodynamic, anthropoanalytic psychotherapy.

Givi Merabishvili's achievements in science and practice

1. Achievements in the field of set psychology:

 a) Regularities of formation and change of pathological set;

 b) Law of assimilative action and contrasting illusion;

 c) Correction of erroneous set action at the unconscious level;

 d) Regularities of mass and individual set.

2. Through experimental research, he established that for the profession of driving, the decisive factor is not reaction speed, good attention, or memory, but anticipation.


3. Created research tests for attention and anticipation.


4. For the first time, he raised the issue of the place of the psyche in biological-social problems, formed a three-member system "social-psychic-biological" and experimentally proved the leading role of the psyche in human activity.

5. Created the original psychotherapeutic trend “Anthropoanalysis”.

  Anthropoanalysis has solved in a new way such problems as:

  1. The causes of mental disorders;

  2. Risk factors;

  3. Symptomatology;

  4. Discovery of the crucial role of reflexion and imagination;

  5. Determination of the criteria for mental health.

6. Developed and practically implemented a system for training parents and educators in child psychoprophylaxis.

He has published 197 works, including 14 monographs, 5 textbooks.

Givi Merabishvili has 35+ years of experience in psychotherapy. Even today, at the age of 85, he is actively engaged in psychotherapeutic activities and supervision for novice and active psychotherapists.
