Psychohygiene

Psychohygiene is a system of habits aimed at maintaining, strengthening and preventing stress in humans. It concerns the mind, emotions, behavior, as well as the body, since the psyche, mental processes, thoughts, reflections, emotions, beliefs affect our body and often cause psychosomatic complaints and disorders. Therefore, in psychohygiene we can consider psychophysical regulation and well-being.

Psychohygiene includes such important aspects as:

  • Psychoregulation — awareness and regulation of one’s thoughts and thinking processes

  • Emotional balance — awareness and regulation of one’s emotions and feelings

  • Stress management — reduction and regulation of tension

  • Healthy relationships — supportive and stable social connections, including couple relationships

  • Body control — relaxation; breathing techniques

  • Physical activity — exercise; cycling; swimming, etc.

  • Rest and sleep — regular and quality recovery

  • Self-care — attention to one’s own needs and overall well-being

Givi Merabishvili's 10 Commandments for a Healthy Life

1. Physical exercise. Morning strengthening exercises are essential - training all muscles and joints. Running and playing ball are preferable. Gradually increase the load during training.

2. Walking. Walking to work or school. Walking in nature with family, friends, or even alone. Hiking on weekends.

3.Breathing exercises. Breathing - support for physical exercise.

4. Massage. Rubbing and patting the body. Preferably before and after exercise.

5. Water procedures. Rubbing the body with a wet cloth until redness occurs. Taking a contrast (cold-hot) shower.

6. Sleep. Develop a habit of falling asleep and waking up at the same time. It is not advisable to read, watch TV, or even take sleeping pills before going to bed. Plan the next day in advance. It is advisable to take a walk before going to bed, to get rid of worries.

7. Nutrition. Avoid strict diets, rapid weight loss. This should be done through moderate nutrition and exercise. Eat all types of food in small quantities - avoid overeating, it is better to feel a little hungry at the end of a meal.

8. Meditation. Relieving mental and physical tension, relieving pain, and curing some physical ailments.

9. Psychoregulation. This is the most important thing when thoughts are normalized. There are no unacceptable, blasphemous thoughts. Thinking is a means of judgment, on the basis of which we come to the right conclusion. Psychoregulation leads to self-knowledge - strengthening and achieving real self-mastery.

10. Interests and relationships. Find an interesting job, connect with interesting people. Don't be discouraged by temporary failures. Also, don't be proud of your successes. Set a long-term goal, towards which you will move step by step.

Our patients effectively develop psychohygienic habits: psychoregulation (reflexion and free flow); emotional balance; stress management; healthy relationships; body control - relaxation; breathing; rest and sleep; self-care for well-being and a healthy life.

The psychohygiene program was developed by the founder of PsychoArsi, Givi Merabishvili, based on "anthropoanalysis".
